- First I must introduce myself as Enid Watson, formerly Enid Conn ( nee Gove ).
Moira ( Dongara ) will probably have told you she has passed on your EMail
name to me. I am very pleased that the info. I sent her does relate to your
family as it is now more interesting writing to you when I knew your
grand-parents, as well as Andy and Margaret. I am very sorry that Andy is no
longer with us because I really would have liked to see him again. I
remember him so well, he used to tease me and I cannot remember if it was in
my first job as Clerkess at Stonehaven Motors (1956/57) or either in my 20's
when I was married and had kids. I do remember that he eventually got
married - think he must have been well in his 30's or maybe felt like that as
in the 60's people got married younger. I think my mother was alive then and
she died when I was 23. I will list a brief ' Tree ' below of which I can
remember but perhaps later, if you wish, we can go into dates of births etc.
I do not know my Dad's year of birth, but as he was 5 years younger than my
mother I assume it was 13/04/1909. Also later there is lots to go into that
are the ' family skeletons ' and only ' come out ' occasionally !!
I remember your grandmother having chats with my Mum when they met ( Maggie
nee Scott ) and I particularly remember Margaret being born and starting
school. It is in my mind that she was called Margaret Murray Am I correct
in this memory Think this stays in mind as her Mum was leaving for America
( Ellen ). It is really weird that in later years Ellen, whilst living near
Vancouver used to visit my great aunt Chris Bentsen ( nee Stephen ) at her
home in Palm Springs. I know Chris met Ellen's present husband and the
previous partner / husband. I cannot remember how we came to visit your
grand-father so frequently after he retired to Auchenblae. I told Moira the
house had Beech in the name and she confirmed it was Beech Villa. I also
remember my 2 youngest sons visited him with my ex-husband ( Colin Conn )
and myself and they particularly enjoyed their visits. There was some
reason they were interested in the house and George's stories. Now Moira
reminds me it was the old Police House so that may have been the reason !
You may have heard I spent some time in Australia ( Perth ) 1985/86 whilst
waiting on my divorce and worked in offices in Perth but as on visitor's Visa
had to leave the country every 5/6 months and re-enter. I did this for some
5 or 6 visits. I then settled in Edinburgh from 1986 and re-married 4 years'
ago. My new husband Derek decided to move to Linlithgow until last year he
bought this 150 years' old house in the Borders area of Scotland, which we
are presently renovating, as he was born here. I, on the other hand, had
always ' thought ' of returning to Stonehaven but I am here now ! I was
born on 21/12/38 and my brother Gavin born 08/05/48. We lived at Broomhill,
Fetteresso, my Dad running the croft as a Market Gardens adding hens and pigs
as time went past for 21 years. When my parents were first married they
lived at Catterline - the starting point of our Family Tree ! ( I can trace
5 generations back to Catterline ) My parents retired to Carron Terrace in
Stonehaven but sadly my Mum died at 48 years of age, my Dad re-married about
7 years' after that and sold the house. He eventually returned to Stonehaven
and died there. I would need to look up lots of papers for dates etc. I
have 5 children noted later.
