      Family history records Jack as being 'very popular , was in all the sports committees and all the pranks'.

      Jack/John was apparently 'lame , and consequently spent most of his time in the saddle, and was a good rider'.

    • WORK/BUSINESS

      David Cargill set up a butcher shop on the north side of the Church of England in Broadmeadows.

      David apparently 'prospered' in his work as a butcher.

      John apparently broker the business into two, with
      a) primary butcher operation operated by Robert 'Bob'
      b) the killing operation to Jack ' Jack speared bullocks from a high platform above the bullock pen.

      The 'butcher carts served a wide area'.

      The brothers bought sheep and bullocks form the Newmarket sale yards weekly.
      They bred their own pigs.

      Further to the 'fallout' with their father David, Bob moved to Sydney and Jack to Gippsland. Following David's 'passing', both brothers returned to Broadmeadows
      • Sold their fathers business AND
      • Built a new shop opposite [2]
    • HORSE RACING

      Jack, Bill Anderson (a 'bookie') and Jack Twomey (a dairyfarmer) and Openshaw (another butcher) had great hopes of 'making it rich', [2]
    • FALLOUT WITH FATHER

      David let Bob manage the business until a 'fallout' occurred apparently involving 'wages and money matters' ....

      • Bob left for Sydney
      • Jack left for Gippsland where he worked with 'Mannings Horsebreeders and Trainers'. [2]
    • STROKE & DEATH

      Jack apparently suffered a partial stroke in later life, and thereafter suffered with a stroke related speech impediment. [2]
