- ORIGIN OF THE CARGILLS
A genealogist corresponded with by Doris Kidney (nee Cargill) in 1972 (copy of original letterattached - 'David Cargill ' [unrelated] of Edinburgh Scotland) speculated, based on his fathers advice that he 'imagined the Cargill's had all come from Scotland originally'; with the Cargill's being 'fishing folk' in Arbroath, Forfarshire (now 'Angus') , Scotland.
Apparently there was a bunch of Cargill's in the Bann Valley (located around the River Bann [not to be confused with the Bann River in southern Ireland] ) in Northern Ireland near Coleraine, a short distance from Bushmills , from whence David Cargill originiated in the 1850's.
The River Bann Cargill's apparently migrated to New Hampshire, USA in 1718.
