Notes - MIGRATION TO AUSTRALIA
David migrated to Australian in 1857 on the ship 'Sir John Franklin' , leaving Ireland (or Enlgland) on 15 April 1857. It took 96 days to reach Perth, WA. [2] - BUSINESSES IN IRELAND
The Cargill family in Ireland apparently owned several butcher shops. - RELIGION
David Cargill was an 'Orangeman' and 'bigotted' apparently.
He would permit his four children to observe the catholic faith of his wife , Mary. [2] - WORK/BUSINESS
David set up a butcher shop on the north side of the Church of England in Broadmeadows.
David apparently 'prospered' in his work as a butcher.
John apparently broker the business into two, with
a) primary butcher operation operated by Robert 'Bob'
b) the killing operation to Jack
The 'butcher carts served a wide area'. [2] - ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY
David become a Councillor of the Broadmeadows Shire, and was at one time President of the Shire.
David was an original Committee Member of the Westmeadows School (refer attached copy 1970 centenary booklet)
