Notes - Joseph was the youngest child of David and Bridget He was born in the Undera area 28 September 1877. In 1881 he was enrolled at the Undera state school, together with his brother John Thomas.
Joseph and Elizabeth Crothers were married in 1903, and between 1904 and 1919 they had seven children.
Joseph worked as a farmhand around the areas of Gillieston, Undera and North Mooroopna until 1919. He then worked at an orchard owned by O F Young and Sons at Ardmona where he stayed until his retirement He also did some work for the Ardmona Cannery.
Joseph had a keen interest in trotters and football. He was a member of the Undera Gun Club. A photograph of members of the Undera Gun Club (including Joseph) in 1898 is presently on display in the Undera Hotel.
After the death of his wife Elizabeth in 1955, Joseph lived with his son Joseph Luke and wife Evelyn for some thirteen years before he bought a caravan and stayed in turns of three months with the rest of his children for some years.
Joseph celebrated his ninetieth birthday at the home of Joseph Luke and Evelyn, with five of his children, eighteen grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
The last years of Joseph Baker were spent at Ballarat where he died on 24 August 1970.
