Notes - James began his education upon the opening of the Undera state school. He is recorded as one of those who enrolled during the 1876-1976 Centenary History of the Undera State School and District. In June 1879 James was transferred to the North Mooroopna state school, together with his brothers Phillip, David and George.
On 7 July 1919 James purchased a 1,300 acre farm at Stanhope, part of the Winter group of farms, which was known as the 'Baker Homestead'. He paid ?17 per acre for the farm.
The house is quite large, 50 squares, and has 16 rooms, the largest of which is the dining room 30'x20'. The hallways are approximately 8' wide with 16' ceilings. The fireplaces are made of marble and each is a different colour. A 12 point bell system is installed for summoning servants. At one stage there was a Chinese gardener's house, turkey house, stables and a pigeon loft.
The farm specialized in Border Leicester sheep, which all sold to private buyers who came to the farm for their purchases.
James died on 13 October 1913 before the family moved to Stanhope and is buried in the Mooroopna Cemetery. Annie survived him until 9 November 1941.
Harold Thomas (Tom), was the last of the family and never married. He died in August 1994.
