Notes |
- Little is known about Margaret Baker, there is no registration of her birth in either Victoria or Tasmania, although it is believed that she was actually born in Tasmania.
Margaret attended the Undera state school when it opened in 1876. This is shown in the 1876-1976 Centenary History of Undera state school and District.
The next known movement of Margaret, or Maggie, as she appears to have been known, was when she attended the wedding of her brother William James to Jane Sims at Torquay, (now known as Devonport) in Tasmania on 28 January 1884. Margaret signed as a witness to the wedding.
At the age of 32, Margaret married George Spears at the Presbyterian Church, Mooroopna, on the 26 February 1896. Margaret then gave the information that she had been born in Tasmania, and that her occupation was a domestic servant.
Margaret's married life was short. On 20 April 1906, Margaret died of peritonitis at Corowa, New South Wales, and is buried in the Presbyterian Section of the Old Corowa Cemetery.
George Spears, Margaret's husband, stated on Margaret's death certificate that Margaret was born in Launceston, Tasmania, and that she had lived there for 2 years.
George Spears died at Bendigo East on 6 August, 1936, and is buried at Bendigo. Margaret Baker and George Spears had no children.
