    • There is no record of his birth in the Parish Registers of Brechin In the 1851 Census his age was given as 8 years In the 1861 Census hw was 18 years old and listed as a Mechanic. Listed as a witness at his brother George's marriage to Mary Anne Duguid in 1865. In 1871 he was living at 32 Princes Street, Dundee and was listed as an Engine Fitter. John died on 26th April1871 in the Dundee Royal Infirmary. His usual address was given as 17 Hope Street, Dundee - a different address from that of the Census of that year. Cause of death was given as Thyphus Fever. His brother, James, was the informant.
