Notes - The 1841 Census lists his first seven children. His occupation is listed as a Linen Neb (?) Starcher and living at Upper Terenements (Tenements) of Caldhame (shown on the 1822 Brechin map) In the 1851 Census he was living at 'Upper Tenements', Brechin and listed as a Linen Weaver. It also lists 8 of his children - Christine has left home and is 'living-in' as a servant with the Mathers (a Procurator in Forfar) in Penmure Street. No record of his son David in this Census nor in the 1861 Census and subsequent ones. In the 1861 Census he was living at 145 Montrose Street, Brechin - (the number is not listed, but is in the right sequence (and is confirmed elsewhere - and also marked "see memorandum book" - but why is not clear) and again listed as a Linen Weaver. Seven children are still living at home - Christine is back, but George and Margaret have now left. N.B. James' age is now given as 32 and Alexander's as 29 when they should have been reversed - I believe that the names were listed in the wrong order. On son Williams's marriage certificate he is listed as a Handloom Linen Weaver. His sixth son, John R(andall?), was witness at his fifth son George's marriage to Mary Anne Duguid in 1865 He and Ann were living at 95 High Street, Laurencekirk with their son William at the time of the 1871 Census. Occupation then given as Weaver. His youngest son, Wallace, was also there as a visitor. He was still living in Laurencekirk at the 1891 Census. He was listed as a General Labourer on son George's Death Certificate, but as a Linen Weaver on his own! His death, on 6th February 1892, was registered by his son William. Mary Ann died on 11 January 1897
