John's will is very long and very detailed, listing every piece of furniture and all the goods in the house. He was an "inn holder" of Mevagissey.
Summary:
To wife Elizabeth, dwelling house in Mevagissey with stable, brew house and chamber over it, and a house in St Austle [sic] commonly calledCulverHouse.
Sons Nicholas and Francis, all the rest not left to Elizabeth.
Transcription of will:
I John Lakeman of Mevagissey in County of Cornwall, Innholder, being of sound perfect and disposing Minds, Memory and Understanding, do make &ordainthis to be my last Will and
Testament (hereby revoking & making void all former Will and Wills by me made) in Manner following, that is to say - - - -
First I Give to my dear Wife Elizabeth Lakeman, the Dwelling House in Mevagissey, in which I now live with the Stable, Brew House and Cham
=ber over it with Willis House and Shop, and the Bowling Green, Backside
and Garden thereto belonging, during so many Years of the Term therein
which I shall dye possessed of, as She shall live, She paying the
Conventionary Rent and all other Outgoings, chargeable on or
Payable out of the whole Tenement, during such her Enjoyment
thereof. And I also give to my said Wife the use of two of my best Beds
Furnished with Pillows, Bolsters, Quilts, Blanketts and Sheets & Pillow
Drawers throughout. I also give to my said Wife the use of such parts of my
Kitchen Furniture and all the Brewing Vessells as she shall think fit to Chuse
During her natural Life, and also the use of all my Plate, Rings
and a Gold Chaine during her natural Life, but it's my Will that my
Wife shall have the Silver Milk Pots, two Large Silver Spoons Marked
I<>LE and Sixteen Spoons Marked Ditto and a Pair of tea Tonges with a
Silver Strainer not no Name, Also a Pair of Silver Salts Marked I<>LE
During her natural Life, Also I give to my said Wife Six dishes and
Saucers Large Images China with a Milk pot to the same, also a Large
Blue & white Stone China Bowl, and also two Blue & white tankard Bowls
and one Bowl what She Calls bench China with all the China in the
Little Cubart in the midle Chamber during her natural Life, Also I give
the use of the Clock during her natural Life, She keeping the same
in Good Order. Also I give my Wife the Screwtor in the Midle Chamber
with the Large Tableboard, Six Chairs, with Rush Bottoms, and Six Chairs

That was her owne before Marriage, Also I give her the Mahogany
Table and two Little round tables, and Twelve Ash Chairs during
her natural Life, Also I give to my said Wife the New Sight Sadle
and Bridle with all her Cloaths and waring Apparell And also
the House in St Austle commonly called the Culver House and all my
Stock in Liquor, Also I give my Wife two Dozen of Pewter plates &
Six Platters that she shall think proper to Chuse during her natural
Life, Also I give my Wife the shoffelboard(?) Table with the Brass Pieces and a Long -oram and the Table in the Green Room, during her
Natural Life, And I do order & direct That my said Wife do sign
an Inventory and Particulars of such Parts of my Plate, China and
Household Furniture as is before specified, And an Undertaking
That She will keep and preserve the same during her Life and at
her Death to be Yielded up to my Executors herein after Named.
Also I Give to my Son Nicholas Lakeman my Screwtore with the top
Part for holding papers, Also I do give all my Table Linning and
Bed Linning to be divided between my Wife and my two sons as
nigh as Possible but not to have any Difference between them, if any
It shall be left to my Wife for she to determine the same.
Also I give to my Son Francis all that my House and Cellar under
in Mevagissey aforesaid, near Mrs Mudens House on the Hill, now
in the occupation of Wm Covins, Imediatly after my Death, during
all my Right and Interest therein, Also I Give my Son Francis, a Bed
Furnished with a Bolster, two Pillows, & Drawers, two Sheits, two Blankets
and a Rouge and Quilt, if there is any one to spare. Also I Give my
Son Francis one Dozen of Pewter Plates and two Platers over and
above is Share and part afterwards this is to be one footing with
his Brother as he have had it before, Also I Give to my Son
Francis, my Watch hoping he will take Care to keep it for
my sake. Also I give to my Son Francis the Screwtore that my
Wife have if he should out Live is mother in Law. Also I
Give to my Wife the Warming Pan, Large Looking Glass & Close
Stool Box and Pann During her Natural Life.

Also, I Give to my Wife all the Pewter Quarts, Pints, half pints and
all the Brandy Measures and all the Ale measures Likewise the Delph
Measure, and Six Dozen of Glass Bottles and Six Stone Jogs (?), with
Two Pewter Water plates, a Large Coper Pot and Brass pan and what
Tea Kittle She shall Chuse, Also, I Give my Wife one Quart Decanter
one Pint & half pint Ditto with a Dozen of Wine Glasses and her tea Chest
and Waiter, and a Round Piller & Claw Tableboard, During her natural
Life. All the Rest and Residue of my Goods Chattles, ready
Money and Securities for Money Credits and Effects and Personal
Estate whatsoever, not herein before by this my Will specifically
given and bequeathed, I Give & bequeath to my said two Sons Nicholas
and Francis Lakeman to be Equally divided between them as Tenants
in Common, They Paying and discharging first my Debts and Funeral
Expences, and I do hereby make nominate Constitute and appoint my
Said two Sons Executors of this my last Will and Testament.
In Witness whereof I have here to Set my Hand & Seal this Nineteenth Day
of March in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred & Sixty
