Notes - The role/position of Shipping Clerk located in Mozambique appears to have been a fairly serious role, and not just clerical. It has been identified that former Barlow Rand CEO and Chairman Michael Rosholt's father was a 'ships agent' in Beira, Mozambique in the 1920's (per Mike Rosholt obituary in Oct 2018 Volume 40 of Wits Review (Witwatersrand University)
- South African Military - it is probable that Bertie served in the South African Forces during World War I (1914 - 1918). No records have been identified, however grandson Denholme has a strong recollection of having been given at least two war medals to 'play with' sometime after the passing of Bertie (1961). Unfortunately it is likely the medals were lost in the playing sandpits of 200 Surrey Avenue, Randburg, Transvaal in the mid 1960's !
- INHERITANCE FOR GRANDSON
Prior to his death, Bertie purchased a property on the South Coast of Natal (below Durban) for grandson Denholme Brett Chapman.
(Note ; In 1972 Bertie's son Roy, with the permission of grandson Denholme) obtained permission through the courts to seel the property, and with the specified intention being that the funds be used to acquire a farm property for Roy Chapman's family. Ultimately the proceeeds thereof were used to acquire the family farm at Mooinooi; Buffelsport ie approx midway between Hartebeespoort Dam and Rustenburg)
