  John was "base born". John's aunt, Margaret Ham, mentions him in her will of 1763: Mary Cann, her sister, 1 shilling John Ham, son of above, 1 shilling He was living in the Church Town part of Kilkhampton when he died, age 82. Monumental inscription at Kilkhampton: This stone is fixed here in memo ry of Joanna the wife of John Ham of this Parish who was buried the 20th day of Apr. 1814 in the 71y. of her age. "Dear husband now my life is past My love to you so long did last So now for me no sorrow take But love my Children for my sake." Also in memory of the above na med JOHN HAM who was called into Eternity the 22nd day of September in the year of our Lord 1822 in the 83rd year of his age. [date of burial in parish register is 17th, not 22nd.]
