"Crossing Prince's Bridge from West Melbourne Rd. (now Shannon Avenue), and climbing up the embankment, we reach Strawberry Hill, named afterarailway station on the south-western line about 10 miles from London. When this hill was surveyed, it was thought that a township wouldbeestablished here, therefore the blocks had a frontage of only forty feet and a depth of about 120 feet. There were three terraces in it -Victoria,Albert and Regent.
Mr Joseph Spicer's home was in Albert St, facing the Barrabool Hills Rd. He came from Market Harborough in Leicestershire and was a brick maker.Henot only made the bricks out of a clay-hole on the same site, but also built most of the house. At the time of the diggings, he paid as much asapound for a mould for making bricks.
