He was an apprentice Blacksmith at the time of the 1891 Census, (aged 21) living at Lethnot with his master. He was not married at this time. His marriage to Ellen Anderson in 1894 was witnessed by an Alexander McKay and a Euphemia Anderson, presumably Ellen's sister. His address at this time was The Bunid (sic), Fettercairn - (the address is not readable) Their first child was born at Balfield, Lethnot & Navar in 1895, but they had removed to Millhill, Kinneff by the arrival of the second in 1896. By 1897 they had removed to the Smithy in Dellavaird, Glenbervie, where all the rest were born. At the 1901 Census he and Ellen were living at the Dellavaird Smithy, together with their first four children. His widowed father, George, (aged 61) was living with him. He was the local blacksmith, employing an apprentice, Alexander Harris. At the registration of the twin's birth, Randall gave his wife's name as Helen - but the correct maiden surname of Anderson. At the registration of Jessie's birth, Randall gave his wife's maiden name as Robertson - it should have been Anderson (unless, of course, that was her reputed father's name) - and the date of marriage as December 16th, wheras it should have been the 14th
