    Notes:

    Was listed as a "lodger" at 93 High Street, Laurencekirk at the 1891 Census. The householder's name was Robertson - there was a 'Maggie', aged 7 years also listed. Could be the Maggie Robertson who kept a shop in the 1950's and was a friend of the family. His uncle, William Scott lived next door at No 95, with his grandparents, David and Ann. In the 1901 Census he was living, with Jessie, sons James 6, George 4, Elizabeth 2 and William 1, at Johnston Street.

    Notes:

    Was the illegitimate daughter of Isabella Officer (domestic servant) and William Croll (farm servant) Lived at, and was married at Kinnear Square, Laurencekirk after banns according to the forms of the Established Church of Scotland. Witnesses were a Randall Scott (James' brother) and a Mary Watson (could have been her step, possibly half, sister through her mother's marriage to James Watson) N.B. the Minister was Thomas Scott, but appears to have been no relation. Burial plot (Lair) in Laurencekirk Kirkyard is numbered A212, and was bought, by Jessie, in March 1926. Lair number A213 was bought at the same time in the name of Isabella Watson who was Jessie's mother - Isabella having married James Watson in 1878. Death Certificate gives name as Jessie Croll Scott - her mother (only) is recorded as Isabella Officer. Registered by William Scott (son) then living at 20 Mill Street, Montrose.

    In the 1841 Census George was listed as being two years old. In the 1851 Census aged 12, he was listed as an H L Weaver Linen (sic) He was living at Montrose Street, Brechin at the time of his marriage in 1865. Married at Marykirk 'After Banns' according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland, by the Minister, William Munnis, of the Free Church, Marykirk. Witnesses were John R Scott, his brother and Elizabeth Duguid (his wife's sister) Was living at the High Street, Edzell, Forfar at the 1871 Census - only James, aged three and Randall, aged one year were at home. Christina was staying with her maternal Grandparents. Was living at Manse Road, Edzell, Forfar at the 1881 Census and listed as a Master Tailor. Was widowed, aged 52, and living at Mill of Thornton Farm, Marykirk at the 1891 Census with his unmarried daughter Christine (25) and sons George, David and William, 16,13 & 9 respectively. His occupation is given as a Farm Servant - presumably working for his brother William. At the 1901 Census he was living with his son Randall at the Dellavaird Smithy. He died there in 1903, aged 63. (Glenbervie is half way between Laurencekirk and Stonehaven) His death was notified by his son Randall. He died from Pneumonia.

    The 1841 Census lists his first seven children. His occupation is listed as a Linen Neb (?) Starcher and living at Upper Terenements (Tenements) of Caldhame (shown on the 1822 Brechin map) In the 1851 Census he was living at 'Upper Tenements', Brechin and listed as a Linen Weaver. It also lists 8 of his children - Christine has left home and is 'living-in' as a servant with the Mathers (a Procurator in Forfar) in Penmure Street. No record of his son David in this Census nor in the 1861 Census and subsequent ones. In the 1861 Census he was living at 145 Montrose Street, Brechin - (the number is not listed, but is in the right sequence (and is confirmed elsewhere - and also marked "see memorandum book" - but why is not clear) and again listed as a Linen Weaver. Seven children are still living at home - Christine is back, but George and Margaret have now left. N.B. James' age is now given as 32 and Alexander's as 29 when they should have been reversed - I believe that the names were listed in the wrong order. On son Williams's marriage certificate he is listed as a Handloom Linen Weaver. His sixth son, John R(andall?), was witness at his fifth son George's marriage to Mary Anne Duguid in 1865 He and Ann were living at 95 High Street, Laurencekirk with their son William at the time of the 1871 Census. Occupation then given as Weaver. His youngest son, Wallace, was also there as a visitor. He was still living in Laurencekirk at the 1891 Census. He was listed as a General Labourer on son George's Death Certificate, but as a Linen Weaver on his own! His death, on 6th February 1892, was registered by his son William. Mary Ann died on 11 January 1897
